Emmanuel A.M.E. Zion Church |
|
Emmanuel History On August 11, 1991, a meeting was held at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Frederick A. Williamson for the purpose of organizing a new Society in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. Twelve people were in attendance, eleven of which became charter members. At this meeting, Emmanuel A.M.E. Zion Mission Society was birthed. The first worship service was held on September 8, 1991 at the Holiday Inn in Downtown Decatur. After several months at this location, the budding congregation moved to Fountain Memorial A.M.E. Church in Clarkston. In November 1991 under the Episcopal leadership of Bishop Cecil Bishop, Emmanuel was accepted into full connection in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. Within two years, on October 10, 1993, the Lord blessed this faithful and dedicated congregation with our present church home here in Stone Mountain.
